PUBLIC SECTOR
PORTSMOUTH CITY COUNCIL
We were taken on to communicate key messages internally and externally
regarding the value and effectiveness of the Youth Service. This was
a crucial period when the future of the Service was under threat of
amalgamation within another council department.
We researched and wrote copy for an Annual Report PCC Youth
Service: On the Case empowering young people for citizenship.
The Report looked at the Service from the perspective of all key
stakeholders: the young people, the youth workers, the probation
and police services, local housing associations and other community
building agencies. Key individuals were interviewed and quotes incorporated
including a quote from Paul Boeteng, then Minister of State at the
Home Office, and leading local councillors.
The Report was produced in a very short period and within budget,
and designed and printed in conjunction with young people in the
City. It was well received both within the Council and externally
and it contributed greatly to strengthening relationships with stakeholders
and recognition and motivation of staff. The Youth Service continues
to go from strength to strength.
CHICHESTER PRIORITY CARE SERVICES NHS TRUST
(now Sussex Health & Social Care NHS Trust)
Following negative media coverage resulting from a mistaken case
of child abuse, we were appointed to establish a framework for communications
trust-wide. The strategic planning focused around the impending
closure of the psychiatric hospital, Graylingwell, and the move
of 100s of patients into the community.
A public education programme was launched and during the campaign
we achieved over 90 major positive stories in the local press and
around 20 local radio interviews. We also introduced PR internally
to managers and clinicians as a valuable tool in community relations,
and arranged media interview training (tv, radio and press) for
senior managers and Chair of the Board. A media crisis management
plan was also put in place to enable damage limitation in the event
of any future negative event.
